Painless burr removal

Here is a tip for removing burrs as painlessly as possible. That sweet paw belongs to Cassie the cockapoo. The trick is to hold the burr and pull the fur away from the burr a few strands at a time. As apposed to trying to pull the burr from the fur, ouch!

Be aware of your surroundings

Very sadly a dear friend of The Dusty Dog lost their precious yorkie to a vicious dog attack on Easter Sunday. It was completely unprovoked. She was on her leash at her owners ankles, literally, she is only 2lbs. The attacking dog just came running, so fast, nothing could be done. Please keep your dogs close to you and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Unfortunately there are people who keep vicious dogs and they are not in control of them. Also please discuss this issue with your neighbours and community leaders. This is an ever increasing event and we need to put a stop to it in order to protect our pets and children.

Help them enjoy grooming

Although it always makes me smile to see their tail full on wagging as they walk into my shop, I am pretty sure that your dog has a long list (if they could keep a list) of things he or she would rather be doing then standing there while I tug and pull at their coat. Might I suggest that we do all we can to make their visit as comfortable as possible. First we must come to the realization that brushing does not remove matts. Brushing and combing your pet prevents matts.
If you would like to start a routine of combing or brushing your pet, do it right after a full groom.
This way you will be brushing him or her tangle free. It will not hurt and hopefully they will actually learn to enjoy this personal time with you. All your pet really wants to do is be with you.

Know before you bring the puppy home!

I believe that you should have a license to sell dogs. Yes buyer does need to be aware, but the seller needs to be responsible.
The seller must let the buyer know the needs of the pet. Not just nutritional, vet and exercise needs, but the grooming needs of the dog.
When you buy or adopt a dog you must know the time requirements both at home and at the groomers. This includes the cost of the upkeep of your pets coat.
I am refering to your time and money.
